Safety Precautions

Read all instructions before use.

  1. Intended for adult use only. Not for use on infants or without prescription if required.
  2. Do not use on an injured or sore arm, or if you have severe circulatory problems.
  3. Ensure cuff is correct size for your arm circumference for accurate readings.
  4. Remain still and quiet during measurement. Do not talk.
  5. Wait at least 5 minutes between consecutive measurements on the same arm.
  6. Consult your physician for interpretation of readings and diagnosis.

WARNING! This device is for monitoring only, not for self-diagnosis or treatment adjustment without professional guidance.

Device Overview

Before First Use

Prepare for accurate measurement.

  1. Environment: Use in a quiet room at room temperature.
  2. User Preparation: Avoid caffeine, exercise, smoking, and bathing for 30 minutes prior. Rest for 5 minutes in a seated position.
  3. Position: Sit on a chair with back supported, feet flat on floor. Rest arm on a table so cuff is at heart level.
  4. Device Check: Ensure all tubing connections are secure and not twisted. Check that gauge needle is at zero.

CAUTION! Incorrect posture or talking can lead to inaccurate readings.

Applying the Cuff

Proper cuff placement is critical.

  1. Bare your left upper arm (or arm as recommended by your doctor).
  2. Slide cuff onto arm so the bottom edge is about 1-2 inches above the elbow crease.
  3. 3. Center the air tube and artery marker over the brachial artery on the inner arm.
  4. Wrap cuff snugly around arm. Pass the end through the metal D-ring and secure with Velcro. You should fit one finger between cuff and arm.
  5. Ensure hoses are not kinked and run down the inner arm.

Tip: For consistent results, always use the same arm and position.

Taking a Measurement

Follow these steps for a manual auscultatory reading.

  1. Position Stethoscope: Place stethoscope head (diaphragm) under the edge of the cuff, directly over the brachial artery you located. Put earpieces in your ears.
  2. Close Valve: Turn the release valve on the bulb clockwise until it is fully closed.
  3. Inflate Cuff: Rapidly squeeze the bulb repeatedly until the gauge reads about 30-40 mmHg above your expected systolic pressure (typically 180-200 mmHg). Do not over-inflate.
  4. Deflate Slowly: Turn the release valve counter-clockwise slightly to allow air to escape slowly (2-3 mmHg per second).
  5. Listen and Read: Listen for the first tapping sound (Korotkoff Phase I). Note the gauge reading at this point – this is your Systolic pressure.
  6. Continue listening as pressure falls. Note the gauge reading when the sounds disappear (Korotkoff Phase V) – this is your Diastolic pressure.
  7. Release Remaining Air: Open valve fully to deflate cuff completely after sounds disappear.
  8. Record Results: Write down both numbers (e.g., 120/80 mmHg). Note the time, date, and which arm was used.

WARNING! Do not leave the cuff inflated for extended periods. If you feel discomfort, release air immediately.

Understanding Results

Consult the chart below as a general guide. Always discuss readings with your healthcare provider.

CategorySystolic (mmHg)Diastolic (mmHg)
NormalLess than 120and Less than 80
Elevated120-129and Less than 80
Hypertension Stage 1130-139or 80-89
Hypertension Stage 2140 or higheror 90 or higher
Hypertensive CrisisHigher than 180and/or Higher than 120

NOTE: A single high reading does not necessarily mean you have hypertension. Track readings over time under consistent conditions.

Care & Cleaning

Unplug any electronic components before cleaning.

  1. Cuff: Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not immerse in water or use detergents. Do not iron.
  2. Gauge & Bulb: Wipe with a dry cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasives.
  3. Stethoscope: Clean earpieces and diaphragm with alcohol wipes.
  4. Tubing: Inspect for cracks. Wipe with dry cloth.

CAUTION! Do not sterilize with steam, ethylene oxide, or high-temperature methods. Do not disassemble the device.

Storage

Store properly to prolong device life.

Tip: Keep the instruction manual with the device for quick reference.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Needle does not move from zeroBlocked tube; loose connection; faulty valveCheck all connections; ensure tubing is not kinked; open/close valve. If persists, device may need service.
Needle jumps or falls rapidlyAir leakCheck valve is closed for inflation. Inspect tubing, cuff, and bulb for cracks or holes. Replace part if damaged.
Cannot hear pulse soundsStethoscope placement; low inflation; ambient noiseReposition stethoscope directly over artery. Inflate 30-40 mmHg higher. Move to a quieter room.
Cuff will not inflateRelease valve open; bulb valve faultyEnsure release valve is fully closed (clockwise). Check bulb's internal one-way valve.
Readings seem inconsistent/inaccurateWrong cuff size; improper posture; recent activityVerify cuff fits correctly (use size guide). Ensure proper seated posture and rest. Wait 5 min between readings.
