Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Ensure proper mounting location.

  1. Mount sensor: Use M4 screws with provided bracket; ensure secure attachment.
  2. Connect power: Use 4-pin M12 connector; observe polarity (brown = +V, blue = 0V).
  3. Connect output: Black wire (NPN) or white wire (PNP) to controller input.
  4. Adjust position: Align sensor with target object path.

WARNING! Disconnect power before installation. Ensure proper grounding to prevent electrical shock.

First-Time Setup

Power on sensor; observe LED indicators.

  1. Set output type: Configure DIP switch for NPN (sinking) or PNP (sourcing) output.
  2. Adjust sensitivity: Turn potentiometer clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease.
  3. Test detection: Place target object in sensing area; verify output LED activation.
  4. Fine-tune: Adjust position and sensitivity for optimal performance.

CAUTION! Do not exceed maximum voltage rating. Keep away from strong electromagnetic sources.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Access settings via DIP switches and potentiometer. Front Panel: LED indicators, Sensitivity adjustment, Alignment marks.

DIP Switch Settings: SW1: Light/Dark mode select; SW2: NPN/PNP output select; SW3: Response time (fast/slow).

Sensitivity: Adjust via potentiometer (20-turn). Alignment: Use alignment marks for through-beam models. Timing: Built-in timer function (ON delay/OFF delay) configurable via DIP switches. Teaching function: Some models feature one-touch sensitivity setting.

Connecting Devices

Power: Brown (+V), Blue (0V). Output: Black (NPN output), White (PNP output).

  1. Turn off power before connecting.
  2. Connect power wires to DC power supply (10-30 VDC).
  3. Connect output wire to PLC or controller input.
  4. Connect shield wire to ground terminal if available.

Tip: Use twisted-pair shielded cable for noise immunity in industrial environments.

Operation Modes

Supports multiple detection modes based on model.

  1. Diffuse reflective: Detects objects without reflector; range depends on color/surface.
  2. Through-beam: Separate emitter and receiver; longest detection distance.
  3. Retro-reflective: Uses reflector; immune to object color variations.
  4. Background suppression: Detects objects within specific distance range.
  5. Fiber optic: For small objects or harsh environments using fiber cables.
  6. Timing functions: ON delay (output turns on after set time), OFF delay (output turns off after set time).
  7. Teaching mode: Automatically sets optimal sensitivity for current application.

WARNING! Do not look directly into LED light source. Keep sensing area clean from dust and debris.

Maintenance & Diagnostics

Regular cleaning: Use soft cloth for lens; no solvents. LED indicators: Green = power OK; Orange = output active; Red = unstable detection (adjust sensitivity).

Regulatory Information

CE compliant: Meets EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU. RoHS compliant: Free of restricted substances per Directive 2011/65/EU. UL listed: File E123456. For support, visit www.ia.omron.com or contact 1-800-55-OMRON.
